Five Tips for Slow Cooker Success

  1. Sautéing aromatics such as onions and garlic before adding them to the slow cooker will always result in the best flavor. Although it’s not 100% necessary, for me it’s a must and worth spending the extra 5 minutes.
     
  2. Use fresh herbs or fresh citrus, such as lemon or lime juice, as well as lemon or lime zest to brighten the flavors of the final dish.
     
  3. While browning meats before slow cooking is not always required, searing 4. roasts and stew meat before adding them to the slow cooker can give a dish a greater depth of flavor and also adds color which makes it look more appetizing.
     
  4. When possible, I prefer to cook on low for the best results.
     
  5. A great time-saving tip for using the slow cooker is to have everything prepped the night before so in the morning I simply turn it on and walk away.
